Seat Belts
Seat belts are likely the most obvious safety tools in any mode of transportation. While, it may seem trivial to simply fasten up, the trip that landed in a rice field is a great example of how quickly circumstances can change. Though your flight is unlikely to be chased by another nation's defense jets, turbulence can strike just as quickly.
Oxygen Masks
One of the more overlooked or forgotten aspects of oxygen masks is the importance of placing your own on before someone else's. As humans, we have a short period of time where are body can sustain us without immediate intake of oxygen. By putting a mask on yourself first, your brain will function better and will be able to act faster in placing a mask on another person.
In the case of an unexpected landing, knowing where the nearest emergency exit is can save your life. In the events Carrie Ott encountered, a speedy departure was not necessary, but knowledge of the nearest exit enabled all of the passengers to deplane safely. This simple tidbit may save your life.
